Our History

Opened in 1978 in West Seattle, Seattle Lutheran High School educates students to Confidence, Hope, Integrity and Passion so they may make a positive difference in the world. Our students are scholars, artists, volunteers, thespians, athletes, and robotic programmers, to name a few.

The philosophy of SLHS is shaped by tenets of the Christian faith, as interpreted by the Lutheran Confessions. The central doctrine of Lutheran theology is Grace. Seattle Lutheran High School is an institution in which Grace is the norm. God is love. His love calls us, renews us, redeems us, and restores us. God’s love guides, directs and compels all that is done at Seattle Lutheran High School. Academic excellence, athletic opportunity and artistic expression are reflections of the grace of God, and occasions for that grace to be evidenced.

The goal of SLHS is to instill in each student, motivated by the love of God, the will to grow into intellectual, physical, emotional, and spiritual maturity and vitality through his or her learning experience. Beyond meeting requirements of entrance into colleges or universities, we help students recognize their unique value and worth; understand the life-changing dynamic of grace; grow in his or her relationship with Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit; behold life as a Christian vocation; and live in confidence and joy as an ambassador and servant to the world.
